berlinrosen glen echo group launch new amsterdam office

Glen Echo Group and BerlinRosen, leading tech public affairs and strategic full-service communications firms, launched a new joint European office footprint in Amsterdam. Following BerlinRosen’s acquisition of Derris and its London office, this expansion will strengthen the three firms’ significant reach throughout Europe.

“Our announcement today is one several years in the making for the Glen Echo Group and for our clients and partners. At this most consequential time in the history of the Internet, the rules of the road we write will determine the future of the global, digital economy,” said Maura Corbett, CEO and Founder of the Glen Echo Group. “We’ve navigated our clients through the beginnings of the Internet and we are committed to guide through the Internet’s next, important chapter, the center of which is the EU and UK. Our new office in Amsterdam, led by a true tech policy veteran in Colin Bortner, is our commitment to that future and we are delighted to contribute our technology issue expertise, creativity and counsel across the EU.”

Leading the expansion is Colin Bortner, former Director of Global Public Policy for Europe, Middle East, and Africa for Netflix, and Caroline Behringer, a former senior advisor and spokesperson for the Obama Administration, former House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, globally-recognized non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies.

Glen Echo Group, a US leader in technology public affairs and communications whose clients have included Netflix, Google, and Mozilla, has long recognized the importance of integrated public affairs for multinational technology brands,  translating  complicated public policy issues into stories that stakeholders can understand. BerlinRosen is a fast-growing, full-service communications firm that supports clients across a broad range of industries, including corporate, social impact/ESG, nonprofit, entertainment, media, racial justice, healthcare, hospitality, lifestyle, technology, issue advocacy and workers’ rights, and was recently named PRWeek’s Outstanding Large Agency of the Year for 2023.

The companies will offer the same full 360-degree suite of services available in their counterparts in New York City, Washington, DC, Chicago and Los Angeles that include: strategic communications, media relations, crisis management, public affairs and digital communications.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Glen Echo Group team,” said Bortner. “Having led successful public affairs and communications campaigns all around the world, I can say that the Glen Echo team and approach are completely unique. It’s so common for public affairs, communications, and even legal teams to fall into silos and lose sight of the big picture, but Glen Echo Group is unique in being able to see the whole policy field and translate a goal into a winning strategy that works on multiple fronts.”

“BerlinRosen stands out in its approach to communications and public affairs campaigns” said Behringer. “Whether it’s winning an advocacy campaign, navigating a complex crisis, developing an interactive experience, or creating cutting-edge digital content, they’re doing the work with an approach and team unlike any other firm. I’m looking forward to bringing my career in American politics and international public affairs to the team to help them grow in Europe and beyond.“

The expansion is led by experienced professionals with deep knowledge of the local markets, including:

  • Colin Bortner, Senior Adviser, Glen Echo Group: an entrepreneurial public policy leader with more than a decade of experience working in the US government, boutique public affairs firms, global technology companies, and cutting edge startups. Colin previously served as Netflix’s Director of Global Public Policy for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, spearheaded Netflix’s public affairs engagements throughout the company’s international expansions, founded a groundbreaking San Francisco-based biotechnology startup, and worked on and off Capitol Hill shaping US technology policy.
  • Caroline Behringer, Senior Adviser, BerlinRosen: an experienced communications and public affairs strategist with a broad range of issue expertise, including climate change and environmental sustainability, democracy, tax, trade and health care policy, and reproductive health. Prior to consulting, Caroline was a senior advisor and spokesperson for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, the House Ways & Means Committee, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, President Obama’s reelection campaign and inauguration, and WWF. In Amsterdam, Caroline has advised on communications and public policy for HEINEKEN and Philips.
  • Michael Rabinowitz-Gold, Senior Adviser, BerlinRosen: In his 13 years at BerlinRosen, Michael has played a role in building several corporate and public affairs practices at the firm. A public affairs and technology expert with extensive experience helping clients navigate electoral campaigns and complicated policy battles, he helps clients from global brands to major nonprofits develop strategies to accomplish their objectives. Michael has prepared executives at global corporations for difficult interviews, launched hundreds of products, transformed policy and helped companies respond to crises, including a global recall.

BerlinRosen and Glen Echo Group’s expansion into Europe builds on the firms’ successful track records of delivering results for clients in the United States. With a focus on building long-term relationships with clients and a commitment to delivering measurable results, the offices in London and Amsterdam mark an exciting new chapter as they expand their global footprint and build on their reputations as trusted partners to businesses around the world.
