What We’re Up To

A Coffee with… Janna Pea, Vice President

September 6th, 2019

Janna Pea, Vice President

☕️ We grabbed coffee with our Vice President Janna Pea to talk about leading racial justice and entertainment accounts, yoga and binge-watching Euphoria (warning: trying to replicate Zendaya’s glitter makeup is a lot harder than it looks).

How do you like your coffee?
Chai latte is my favorite. If I absolutely need coffee, I will do a latte with tons of sugar.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I really enjoy traveling. Yoga is a favorite for me, in addition to people watching! NYC summers, hanging out in the park or at the beach, and weekend brunching always make me happy.

Why did you join BerlinRosen?
BerlinRosen does great work in the issue advocacy and social impact space. That, coupled with my previous experience in racial justice and entertainment made for a perfect blend. I enjoy working on issues connected to race, economic and social justice, culture and entertainment as they have a direct impact on communities of color.

What’s your day-to-day like at BerlinRosen?
There’s no such thing as a “day-to-day”, ha! On a consistent basis, I lead our work with clients such as Color Of Change, BlackPAC and an awesome movie that is currently in theatres – Luce.

What are you most proud of doing since joining the firm?
The biggest win for me is not with a specific client but internally – making big strides with the individuals I manage and others at the firm, ensuring they feel seen and heard. As the firm grows, it’s key to keep pushing to continuously be more intentional with DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) and the overall culture.

Tell me a life-changing moment that helped shape who you are today.
Being accepted into law school but choosing not to go because of a spontaneous job offer to work on Capitol Hill.

What advice would you give to someone applying to work at BerlinRosen?
Be passionate about the issues and committed to working hard to fight against the many injustices in this country. And please, have good energy and a positive attitude.

⚡️ Fast Facts

  • Last TV show I binge-watched: Euphoria (duh!)
  • Restaurant I’d only recommend to close friends: Cafe Mogador or Spaghetti Incident, both in NYC.
  • Best concert I’ve ever experienced: I am embarrassed to admit, but it was Kanye’s Glow in the Dark tour.
  • Book that changed me: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
  • My hero is… a mix of Anita Hill and Serena Williams.
  • Advice I’d tell my young self: slow down and quit trying to rush the process; everything happens the way it’s supposed to and most things you can’t control. That is okay.
